The CHS Food Pantry is closed this week for the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular distribution will continue next week Thursday, December 3 from 3pm-6pm and Friday, December 4 from 11am-2pm.
As we begin preparing our Thanksgiving meals for later this week, please take a brief moment to reflect on how lucky we all are to be able to look forward to such an event. For many of us, we know there will be plenty of food to eat, maybe a spot by a cozy fire to sit by, and friends or family to laugh with (virtually this year) as we tell and listen to stories around the table.
Unfortunately, Thanksgiving will not look like this for many of the people we serve. Whether those individuals and families are experiencing a housing or hunger crisis, Thanksgiving will be another day of struggle finding enough food to eat and a safe place to stay warm. As Monday, November 30 is Cyber Monday, please consider purchasing warm hats and gloves for our clients. You can access our public Amazon wish list for emergency shelters by clicking here. And if you shop with AmazonSmile with CHS as your selected charity, a portion of your money spent on purchases will support our programming.
For the holiday this year, a group of compassionate volunteers from Arensal Technical High helped the CHS Food Pantry pack and deliver 60 Thanksgiving boxes for CHS clients living throughout Allegheny County. Because of how much the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened food security, we were especially thankful to have the community support for this annual event. For participating clients, it is the only way they are able to have enough food for Thanksgiving. These boxes were filled with the fresh produce and healthy canned goods needed for all the traditional side dishes, and gift cards were included so families could purchase a turkey for their tables.
As always, we thank you for your continued support of the work we do. Stay safe, and enjoy your holiday, whether that is virtual or with close friends and family.
