This week, our South Oakland Food Pantry received two generous donations from The Children's Center of Pittsburgh in Oakland and the Mid Atlantic Capital Group in the Strip District that equaled over 2,500 pounds! We couldn't be more grateful to such good allies in Pittsburgh. Our allies are what makes us strong, and we cannot impact Allegheny County without your support.
Donation drives are an easy way to advocate for our Pittsburgh communities. They help bring people together, and they really make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.
Each year, our food pantry distributes over 73 tons of food from The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, but with food insecurity growing in Pittsburgh communities, every extra pound we receive through donation drives really makes a difference. Over 174,000 individuals in Allegheny County suffer from food insecurity, meaning they do not have reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. We never turn away hungry families and individuals, and receiving these extra resources through donation drives gives our pantry the supplies it needs to impact hunger. Donation drives also make sure our pantry remains a reliable source of fresh produce and healthy non-perishables for adults and children living in Allegheny County.
If you'd like to set up a donation drive with your organization, please reach out to us at [email protected] or check out our public Amazon Wishlist here to see what kind of items our pantry needs. Our pantry strives to serve fresh and healthy food, so low-sodium and low-sugar canned items are always welcome. And if you'd like to volunteer, please sign up through our Pittsburgh Cares page. Distribution hours are Thursdays 3pm-6pm and Fridays 11am-2pm.
Thank you for being our neighbors and supporting our work!
