Functional Definition: 

The Residential Shift Lead (referred to as “RSL”) provides direct, on-site support to staff and residents in a respectful manner while acting as a shift lead on the residential team. As the shift lead, the RSL is responsible for addressing and following up on any crisis issues that occur of the shift, providing staff support and training, monitoring of program documentation, and maintaining minimum staffing levels by providing site coverage when necessary. The RSL does not directly supervise staff but does provide staff support, training, and provides feedback to supervisory staff. The RSL is cross trained and meets the minimum regulatory requirements for all residential programs to include but not limited to DOM/CRR care, Enhanced Supported Housing, Supported housing, Atypical shelters, McKee, and Wood Street Commons programs. Responsibilities and Duties: 

1. Be present, flexible, and available to provide staff support across any residential site on designated shift. The RSL is expected to travel between multiple residential sites throughout the shift based on needs of the programs.
2. Be the first point of contact for staff on shift to address any crises, concerns, issues, or needs that arise.
3. Assist other residential staff, both management and program, as needed including ensuring site staff coverage.
4. Follow communication protocol and address complaints, incident reports, behavioral problems and other situations promptly.
5. Address medical and psychiatric emergency situations, including but not limited to 302 procedures, crisis management, de-escalation strategies, and other non-life threatening emergencies with clients as needed in a calm and respectful manner. Implement appropriate county and program emergency procedures. Seek appropriate outside support when necessary.
6. Provide assistance to staff with crisis intervention and problem solving with program participants.
7. Follow proper medication administration or assistance procedure and documentation for the respective program. Ensure shift staff are also following proper medication protocol and procedures.
8. Maintain occupancy for programs by participating in referral, interview, move-in, and enrollment procedures.
9. Complete required written documentation in a timely manner. This includes daily RSL report, incidents reports, progress notes, goal record sheets, and other case record forms. Ensure that progress notes include the individual behaviors, activities, goal progress, any changes, daily interactions, needs, strengths, etc. to provide a comprehensive log.
10. Complete data entry of information into the agency and funder-specific databases for reporting purposes in a timely basis.
11. Understand and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with the agency and program policies and procedures. Identify appropriate procedures for various situations.
12. Develop a professional and therapeutic relationship with individuals. Maintain and model appropriate personal boundaries.
13. Provide role modeling and coaching to shift staff including supportive counseling to residents regarding their needs, interests, and goals, guidance regarding decision making, insight into attitudes and ways of behaving, and monitoring goal progress and evaluate outcomes.
14. Provide role modeling and coaching to shift staff including instructing and assisting individuals in learning the skills necessary to complete household duties (cooking, cleaning, shopping, menu planning, laundry, and general maintenance), developing social, vocational and self-care skills, and accessing and utilizing resources.
15. Ensure shift staff are encouraging individuals to participate in social, recreational, and community activities and develop an informal support network
16. Respond to alarm calls and emergent maintenance issues that arise on the shift communicating according to policy/procedures with Director of Facilities.
17. Ensure staff are maintaining the physical site by assisting consumers or performing household duties and report any needed house-related repairs including assisting in cleaning the staff office and common spaces as needed. Ensure health and safety standards are met and maintained. Maintain an inviting and comfortable atmosphere in the office and common spaces.
18. Analyze and adjust services to ensure they are responsive, effective and driven by excellent customer service.
19. Attend necessary trainings and professional development sessions to enhance agency-wide knowledge. Attend a minimum of 15 hours per calendar year of training and submit documentation to supervisor.
20. Participate in scheduled CHS staff meetings and other related scheduled meetings.
21. Communicate with the CHS staff and other service providers as needed regarding participant issues.
22. Maintain open communication and work cooperatively with other CHS staff to establish and fulfill overall agency and program goals and objectives.
23. Consult with the CRO and/or PD on strategies to improve the effectiveness of the programs, given agency and program mission and working practices.
24. In collaboration with CRO and/or PD, train new staff and facilitate trainings for existing staff to enhance skills and knowledge. The RSL will be the lead trainer for staff hired for the shift and is expected to maintain new hire training documentation.
25. Perform random file monitoring to ensure data quality and all documentation is accounted for. Work with fellow staff to correct any deficiencies and maintain “audit ready” status.
26. Provide direction and support for Social Work interns and volunteers working at the site.
27. Work with CRO to collect and report data, outcomes, areas for improvement, staff development, and funder reports as needed.
28. Attend scheduled meetings with Program Directors, CSS IIs, RSLs and CRO to address staffing, programming, funding, and best practices.
29. Complete all job duties in accordance with the mission and values of CHS.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Masters in Social Work, Psychology, or related field, five years of work experience, or combination of work, education and life experiences approved by the agency and funder.
2. Completion of all required training including CPR/First Aid and medication monitoring within first year and maintain afterward.
3. Pre-employment physical and TB screening with results stating person is free from communicable disease, at hire and every two years thereafter.
4. Agency approval of current background check, Act 34 Criminal, Act 33 Child Abuse, and FBI Criminal clearances.
5. Must have valid PA driver’s license, have driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance review, and pass internal driving test.
6. Must have a personal vehicle and have the ability to travel between sites as needed during work hours.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Mediation and conflict management experience is preferred.
8. Exceptional customer service communication.
9. Culturally competent, being able to work effectively with all backgrounds.
10. Certification or training in crisis management, mental health, and behavioral health education.
11. Experience and ability to de-escalate mental and behavioral health crisis situations while maintaining excellent judgment and a calm demeanor.
12. Strong organizational, phone and computer skills.
13. Strong knowledge of the social service system through life or job related experience.
14. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
15. Ability to schedule and manage multiple job responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
16. Strong ability to navigate the Internet to familiarize and access various resources.
17. Ability to work and travel independently.
18. Ability to walk up and down steps and physical activity related to cooking, cleaning, and general household maintenance.
19. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
