Our Goal: The CHS In Home Services Program is designed to keep people safe, healthy, and independent in their homes.
What We Do: The In Home Services Program provides a variety of offerings to individuals with disabilities living in the community. The services help people retain housing in their communities as long as possible. The services include light housekeeping, basic personal care assistance, chore service, meal preparation, completion of simple errands/shopping, motivation and instruction, and social activities.
Who We Serve: The In Home Services Program serves adults and seniors who have a disability and meet income qualifications. Please call the program for details.
Impact: The In Home Services Program builds on each person’s strengths and abilities in order to keep them living at home. CHS’ In Home Service specialists help participants do what they cannot for themselves and assist them in structuring their daily activities to do as much as they can. By engaging people in their homes, the program decreases their social isolation, while increasing their personal wellness and ensuring they can remain as independent as possible.
History: In the 1980s, the U.S. Department of Public Welfare searched for ways to help individuals’ transition from welfare to work. CHS started the In Home Services Program as a pilot project for Welfare to Work. Single parents were recruited to assist people with disabilities in their home. Not only did many people find employment in the program but also the people served by the In Home Services Program experienced an improvement in the quality of their lives and were less likely to be placed in a hospital, personal care, or nursing home. Since then, the program has been providing in-home support to people between the ages of 18 and 59 with physical and behavioral health issues. Two years ago, CHS secured new funding to provide even more comprehensive services to both adults and seniors living in the community with serious and persistent mental illness.
